EMPOWERING YOUNG MINDS

MOKJAETJI GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

The "Illumination" Graduate Scholarship is named for past Vice President Toni "Mokajaetji" Humber.


ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP:


We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Our scholarship aims to support bright minds who are committed to making a difference. As the first recipient of the Our Authors Study Club, Inc. (OASC) Graduate Scholarship and an example of someone who left such an indelible mark in “Her-Story” and so many lives; notably the student scholars that Dr. Humber mentored through her work and OASC. Our Authors Study Club, Inc. names in perpetuity the graduate support the Dr. Toni-Mokjaetji Humber Fund to support African American scholarships at the graduate/post-doctorate level.


SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS: 


  • Current graduate student pursuing any subject minimum 8 units
  • Incoming graduate student accepted to college or university 
  • Completed application
  • One (1) letter of recommendation
  • 500 word article
  • Acceptance letter
  • Transcript

Our Authors Study Club Scholarships

Our Authors Study Club is Scholarships are for high school and graduate students.

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS:

  • COMPLETED APPLICATION:  Please complete all parts of Application.  If an area does not apply, write “N/A” in the space provided.
  • SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT & COURSE SCHEDULE: You must provide an original, official copy of your  2024-25 school transcript and course schedule for the Fall 2025 semester.
  • RESUME:   Include extracurricular activities and volunteer/work experience.
  • LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE FROM THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR 4-YEAR COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY OF YOUR CHOICE.
  • ESSAYS:  You must submit one essay addressing a following topic: Essay #1 - Life Challenges & Career Goals: a. What life challenge(s) have you overcome to get to college? b. Describe your career goals, how you plan to accomplish those goals, and what steps you are currently taking towards those goals. Essay #2 - Dr. Carter G. Woodson: a. Why is Dr. Carter G. Woodson an important historical figure? b. What is the importance of knowing about the accomplishments of Dr. Woodson, especially for African Americans? c. How is his story an inspiration for you?


FORMAT AND CONTENT REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Be 1-1½ pages, doubled spaced, 12-point font
  • Have 1-inch margins
  • Be written in one of the following fonts:  Arial, Cambria, Times, Times New Roman, or Verdana  
  • Be numbered and include the applicant’s name   
  • Have at least 3 paragraphs
  • Address at least three supporting points  
  • Have a conclusion
  • Be double-spaced and more than one paragraph. Single-spaced and one-paragraph essays will not be accepted
